According to Taiwan’s ‘Economic Daily,’ NAND Flash prices have rebounded strongly. Media reports indicate that the leading company, Samsung, has seen a recent surge of 40% in spot prices, driving contract prices higher. Samsung, along with the fourth-largest NAND chip supplier, Micron, has recently led the increase in contract prices by 10%, with other major manufacturers expected to follow suit.
Industry sources have revealed that they have indeed received messages from original manufacturers about price hikes recently. The extent of the price increase varies depending on the customer and product category. The major chip manufacturers are now resolutely unified in their determination to raise prices.
According to the professional technology news outlet “Chip Voice,” Samsung’s strategy of increasing NAND prices has proven effective amid production cuts. The price of 512Gb chips has risen from a low of $1.4 to $1.85, with spot prices even reaching $2, a rapid increase of nearly 40% in less than a month. Currently, almost all storage chip suppliers intend to follow suit, including Yangtze Memory, which plans to send price increase notifications to customers shortly.
The rapid rise in spot prices has encouraged an increase in NAND contract prices. “Wall Street News” reports that Samsung has raised NAND contract prices by 9% to 10%, and Micron’s prices have also risen by about 10%. Competitors like SK Hynix and Yangtze Memory are expected to join the price hike soon, with increases of around 10% anticipated. According to recent foreign reports, the increased demand from mainland module and smartphone customers, coupled with the established trend of NAND prices hitting rock bottom, has led some customers to accept price increases of 30% to 35%.
Industry analysts believe that this surge in NAND prices is primarily driven by major players like Samsung, who can no longer sustain multiple consecutive quarters of losses and have internally decided, “We can’t afford to lose money anymore; we need to raise prices to be profitable.”
