During the process of sharing the printer today, when connecting the shared printer, the system will prompt: ‘The operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709).’
(Note: Sharing from Win11 Home Edition to Win10 Enterprise Edition, and finally proved that it is unrelated to the versions.)
This is a very difficult problem to solve. Even after all sharing permissions, firewall, etc., are set correctly, it is still unable to resolve. After much effort, the following methods were attempted, and only the last method managed to solve it!
01
Method 1: Uninstall updates and reconnect the printer
- Uninstall updates: In the Control Panel, locate the installed Windows updates and uninstall the recent update patches, such as KB5005569/KB5005573/KB5005568/KB5005566/KB5005565/KB5006667, etc. If they can be successfully uninstalled, restart the computer to check if the problem persists. However, frustratingly, I encountered situations where these updates couldn’t be uninstalled! It’s utterly exasperating!
- Try accessing the network printer using the computer name or IP address to see if it resolves the issue! Unfortunately, my result was still a failure! Upon further search on Google, continue with the following methods.
02
Method 2: Manually add Windows credentials
- Go to the Control Panel and locate “User Accounts.”
- In “User Accounts,” click on the “Windows Credentials” option.
- Within “Windows Credentials,” click on “Add a Windows credential.”
- Input the computer name and username (e.g., guest) in the credentials, leave the password blank, and then click “OK.”
- After restarting the computer, attempt to reconnect the printer.
Result: Still the same, almost on the verge of giving up! Turning to Google for help once again!! Continue with the following methods.

Repair the print service using a batch file
- Download the Fix_PrintSpooler batch file.
- Replace the win32spl.dll file.
- Locate the win32spl.dll file on a functioning computer (typically found in the system32 folder).
- Copy this file to the same location on the target computer.
- Restart the computer and attempt to reconnect the printer. Surprisingly, this time, the network printer connected successfully! This method proved effective, resolving the shared printing issue that had been troubling for 2 hours. The 0x00000709 error no longer appeared, much relief!
Finally, I am grateful to the online community for providing the repair batch file. Without replacing this file, the problem might have remained unsolved. Thanks once again!
If you also encounter this issue and need the repair batch file, feel free to comment and contact me. I’ll share it for free on a cloud drive for everyone!
