According to reports, a foreign developer named NTDEV has conducted many interesting experiments on Microsoft’s Windows operating system, such as Tiny 11, Live 11, and a version of Windows 11 that can be installed on a 4GB USB drive. Previously, NTDEV also created Winception, running a Windows 8.1 virtual machine on Windows 10, then running a Windows 8 virtual machine on Windows 8.1, and finally running a Windows 7 virtual machine on Windows 8.
Recently, NTDEV successfully compressed Windows 11 into a pure text format, creating an installation ISO file that is only 100MB in size, possibly the smallest Windows 11 image to date.
As it is in pure text mode, many features have been streamlined compared to the normal (or Tiny 11) graphical user interface of Windows 11. Even after removing all graphical user interfaces and applications related to Windows 11 itself, NTDEV has crafted it into a runnable Windows 11 operating system. In this pure text operating system, multitasking is still possible.
After installation, all Windows 11 directories occupy about 1.91GB of space. This streamlined version of Windows has only four folders, whereas a normal Windows 11 installation requires at least 64GB of storage space.
NTDEV pointed out some shortcomings of this pure text version of Windows 11. Despite removing the graphical user interface and many features, the operating system demonstrated by the developer runs quite slowly. However, this shows that once you are familiar with the workings of the operating system, you can strip away many components while still keeping it operational. The developer demonstrated running ‘mininit.exe’ for Windows 10 in MS-DOS mode, and this mini version of the Windows 11 operating system is named ‘Min Wins’.
To achieve these things, one needs to have a deep understanding of the technical ins and outs of the Windows operating system. For Tiny 11, once Microsoft releases a new major update, NTDEV will release a new Tiny 11 tool.
Currently, this “pure text” version of Windows 11 is not open to the public, nor is there an ISO file download or instructions available for use. It’s unclear what practical value it has.
