Microsoft is pinning its hopes on Windows on ARM becoming the next big thing and launched an Arm consulting service for developers in 2023. Now, Microsoft is expanding its support to global developers, helping them build applications and devices for ARM.
The new announcement explains that the service now supports English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Japanese. Additionally, it will provide services during local business hours in any time zone.
The program aims to encourage developers to build new applications for Windows ARM devices and transition existing applications. Microsoft sees Windows on ARM as an excellent opportunity, and the App Assure team can assist developers in resolving various issues to keep applications running smoothly.
Microsoft also states that interest in new ARM processors is surging, with “many in the industry believing that Windows on ARM devices represent the future of computing, with unparalleled speed, battery life, and connectivity.”
While expanding support, Microsoft also revealed that major manufacturers will launch a series of new laptops in 2024 featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor. These processors will include a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for natively processing artificial intelligence tasks on devices.
Microsoft plans to introduce multiple NPU-based features in Windows 11 settings and applications, including AI Upscale, AI Explorer, Paint, and more. Microsoft has already launched the new Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 notebooks, equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors and NPUs.
However, the performance benchmarks for the Snapdragon X Elite are highly anticipated, surpassing the previous generation of Apple’s M chips.
Previously leaked Geekbench scores for the Snapdragon X Elite look very impressive. The new Snapdragon X Elite processor scored 2574 in single-core and 12562 in multi-core, highlighting its formidable performance.
Recently leaked information indicates that the Snapdragon X Elite processor will have four variants, each suited for specific use cases. Additionally, the leaked details revealed the Snapdragon X Plus series processors, which slightly lag behind the Elite series in performance.
Windows ARM devices (at least the current ones) are pricey, but processors with moderate performance will attract more laptop users. Microsoft believes that ARM devices combine performance and efficiency, extending the battery life of portable computers.
Qualcomm has already established collaborative intentions with several manufacturers (Lenovo, Dell, HP), planning to release new devices. Moreover, application brands like NordVPN, SurfShark, and Foxit have joined Microsoft’s ARM program.
