Introduction about Ryzen 9000 Zen5
Digital enthusiasts all know that Intel and AMD will release their new generation of processors in the second half of this year. Unlike previous years, both manufacturers have adopted a more low-key and conservative approach this year, and the information disclosed officially is very limited.
Regarding the specific release dates, both manufacturers have been vague, only stating “to be released in the second half of this year” or “to be released later this year.” As for the specific parameters and performance of the processors, even less is known.
A few days ago, I shared some leaks about Intel’s next two generations of processors. Today, I will continue with the momentum and share the latest rumors about the AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors.
02
Release Date
First is the release date, which brings a bit of a surprise because there won’t be a long wait. The latest rumor is that the Ryzen 9000 series processors (desktop version) will be released at the COMPUTEX 2024 event in early June and will hit the market by the end of July. Please refer to the image above.
I think this news is quite credible for two reasons:
- In the past one or two months, major motherboard manufacturers have released new BIOS versions for their 600 series motherboards, clearly indicating support for AMD’s next-generation processors.
- Recently, there have been rumors that the Ryzen 9000 series processors have already started mass production.
03
Specific Model Names
As everyone knows, Intel will make significant adjustments to the naming rules for its future processors, moving away from names like “Core 15th Gen” and “Core 16th Gen” and adopting a completely new naming scheme, which Intel has not yet officially detailed.
Additionally, the naming rules for AMD’s recent generations of processors have also been somewhat confusing. The Ryzen 8000 series has already been released, so will the upcoming next-generation processors still belong to the Ryzen 8000 series, or will they be the new Ryzen 9000 series? Will the naming rules change?
The answer is no; AMD will continue using the current naming rules, including for processor and motherboard chipset models. The leaked models of the Ryzen 9000 series include Ryzen 9 9950X (16 cores), Ryzen 9 9900X (12 cores), Ryzen 7 9700X (8 cores), and Ryzen 5 9600X (6 cores).
As for the chipset and motherboard model names, everyone knows that AMD’s current generation is the 600 series, preceded by the 500 and 400 series. According to the usual rhythm, the upcoming latest generation should be the 700 series.
However, AMD has decided to skip the 700 series and name it the 800 series. The flagship, mainstream, and entry-level chipsets and motherboard models will be named X870, B850, and A820, respectively. Existing 600 series motherboards can still support the latest Ryzen 9000 series processors through BIOS upgrades.
Whether it’s the processor or motherboard model names, they remain “familiar formulas, familiar flavors,” without adding extra public understanding or memory costs, which is commendable.
04
Specific Improvements
Since it’s a new generation of processors, the most attention-grabbing aspect is what improvements it brings, especially in performance. Unfortunately, AMD has remained tight-lipped about this, only vaguely revealing three aspects (refer to the image above):
- Improved performance and efficiency.
- Redesigned and improved the pipeline front-end to address widespread issues. 3. Integrated AI and machine learning to enhance AI performance.
Additionally, there are some rumors: the Ryzen 9000 series processors’ IPC has improved by 10%, and certain specific workloads have seen a 40% performance increase. These rumors have not been confirmed yet and are for reference only.
Please note: The above content refers to the desktop version of the Ryzen 9000 series, codenamed “Granite Ridge.” Next, we will introduce the leaked information about the mobile version of the Ryzen 9000 series, codenamed “Strix Point.”
05
Ryzen 9000 Series Mobile Version
The Ryzen 9000 series mobile version will be released later than the desktop version, expected to be released in August and available in October. This series will replace the existing models like the Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U, mainly for laptops, mini PCs, and handheld gaming devices.
Furthermore, it is rumored that AMD will adjust the naming rules for the Ryzen 9000 series mobile version processors, potentially naming them the “Ryzen AI 300” series.
06
Expectations and Prospects
The above content is a summary compiled from various sources, and whether this information is accurate will soon be revealed, as the COMPUTEX 2024 event is only a week away. Please be patient.
If the rumors are true, AMD’s new product release schedule is significantly ahead of Intel’s, giving it a substantial first-mover advantage. If the new products have strong enough performance and cost-effectiveness, it will put considerable pressure on Intel.
I will share more updates and leaks about the Ryzen 9000 series processors as soon as possible. Please stay tuned.
