Friends who often visit internet cafés might feel that the computers there are especially durable and rarely break down, but this is actually an illusion, mainly due to the following points:

Internet Café Servers

Most internet café computers use diskless network booting, meaning customer machines do not have hard drives and are powered by a diskless server. These servers use enterprise-level SSDs, and setting up a server room typically costs around 100,000 to 200,000, ensuring high quality and a very low chance of failure, especially since it’s a commercial environment.

Daily Maintenance

Cleaning of mice and mouse pads is straightforward, and after each customer finishes, the equipment is wiped down with disinfected cloths. The main focus is on the keyboards and monitors (all-in-one). Keyboards are regularly wiped and dusted, and the gaps between keycaps are cleaned weekly. All-in-one machines are cleaned weekly with a specialized vacuum to ensure optimal heat dissipation, making them easier to maintain compared to assembled desktops.

Spare Parts

Internet cafés keep various hardware and peripheral spare parts on hand, typically around 10% of the total machines. Even if peripherals fail, they are replaced promptly.

Internet Cafe Hardware Updates

Internet café computers are generally updated every 2-4 years, depending on the café’s standard and the development of hardware and games. Cafés that don’t replace their computers after 4 years are either illegal establishments or in remote areas with no competition. In cities, failing to update within 4 years usually means closure is imminent.

In contrast, most households use their computers for 3-5 years, with many lasting 5-8 years or even more than 8 years still functioning normally.
