The second volume of TSMC founder Morris Chang’s autobiography is set to be published at the end of November. According to a report by Taiwan’s CommonWealth Magazine, Commonwealth Publishing today (6th) revealed the table of contents for the second volume of Chang’s autobiography, which discloses that he once approached Jensen Huang to gauge his interest in the position of TSMC CEO.
The table of contents includes a chapter titled “Gauging Jensen Huang’s Interest in the TSMC CEO Position,” sparking significant attention. Morris Chang began succession planning in 2005 and appointed three co-COOs in 2012. Notably, in 2013, he even sounded out Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to see if he was willing to take on the role of TSMC CEO.
Apparently, Jensen Huang declined Chang’s offer, and Nvidia has since become TSMC’s second-largest client after Apple. After the co-COO Chiang Shang-Yi retired in 2013, Chang appointed Mark Liu and C.C. Wei as Co-CEOs, implementing a dual leadership system. Chang officially retired after TSMC’s 30th-anniversary event.
The second volume of Morris Chang’s autobiography also recounts his experiences at Texas Instruments, the challenges and turning points since TSMC’s founding, and details about how Apple became a critical partner in TSMC’s supply chain.
