With the continuous advancement of semiconductor technology, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro series in 2026, which will feature the A20 Pro processor manufactured using TSMC’s latest 2nm process technology. This technological upgrade not only signifies a leap in performance but may also result in a significant increase in costs, which could, in turn, impact the final retail price.
As the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturer, TSMC has been at the forefront of process technology innovation. According to reports, TSMC’s 2nm (N2) technology is progressing smoothly, and significant progress has been made. This technology is TSMC’s first generation of nanosheet transistor technology, expected to deliver a full-node leap in performance. Compared to the 3nm process, the 2nm process is expected to increase performance by at least 10% and improve power efficiency by 30%, marking another major breakthrough in semiconductor technology.
According to the latest market analysis, the Apple A20 Pro processor, produced using TSMC’s 2nm process, will see the chip price rise from the current $50 to $85, an increase of 70%. If Apple does not absorb this cost increase itself, it is likely to be passed on to consumers, leading to a price hike for the iPhone 18 Pro. In addition, the price of TSMC’s 2nm wafers has already exceeded $30,000, whereas 3nm wafers are priced between $18,500 and $20,000, showing a significant price difference between the two.
With the rise in processor costs, the final retail price of the iPhone 18 Pro may increase. Analysis suggests that the cost per phone for Apple will rise by $35, which could translate to a price increase of at least $50 or more for consumers. Nevertheless, the performance improvements and energy efficiency gains brought by the 2nm process may make this price increase worthwhile for consumers.
