Preface
In previous articles, we have compared the gaming performance of the Radeon RX 9060 XT and the RTX 5060 series. Today, we’ll bring in AMD’s previous generation Radeon RX 7700 XT for a head-to-head showdown.
In terms of positioning and specifications, the Radeon RX 7700 XT ranks higher than the Radeon RX 9060 XT. The former has a 192-bit memory interface, compared to 128-bit on the latter, and also significantly more shaders and texture units. However, the Radeon RX 9060 XT benefits from advantages in architecture and manufacturing process.
So, can the Radeon RX 9060 XT match or even surpass the Radeon RX 7700 XT in performance? This article will reveal the answer through gaming tests.

Specification Comparison
The Radeon RX 9060 XT was released on June 4, 2025, using the Navi 44 GPU and manufactured with TSMC’s 4nm process. Based on the RDNA 4 architecture, it features 2048 shaders, 128 texture units, 64 ROPs, 32 compute units, and 32 ray tracing units.
It has 4MB of L2 cache and 32MB of L3 cache. The standard clock is 1700MHz, with a boost clock up to 3130MHz. It uses a 128-bit memory bus and comes with either 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6 memory running at 20.1Gbps, providing a bandwidth of 322.3GB/s. Power consumption is 160W, and the prices are $299 for the 8GB version and $349 for the 16GB version.
The Radeon RX 7700 XT was launched on August 25, 2023, based on the RDNA 2 architecture and using the Navi 32 XL GPU on TSMC’s 5nm process. It has 3456 shaders, 216 texture units, 96 ROPs, 54 compute units, and 54 ray tracing units, with 2MB of L2 cache and 48MB of L3 cache.
The base clock is 1700MHz, with a boost clock of 2544MHz. It comes with 12GB of GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit interface, with memory speed of 18Gbps and a bandwidth of 432.0GB/s. FP32 compute performance is 35.17 TFLOPS, power consumption is 245W, and the MSRP is $449.

Conclusion
Overall, the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB delivers gaming performance roughly on par with the Radeon RX 7700 XT, while generally consuming less power.
To be fair, it’s already impressive that the RX 9060 XT 16GB can perform at this level. Expecting it to surpass the RX 7700 XT is unrealistic. However, considering the price difference, the RX 9060 XT 16GB offers excellent value for money.
