Samsung has made a big move again!

Yesterday, they launched a brand new in-vehicle SSD named AM9C1, based on eighth-generation V-NAND technology. This device is specifically designed for vehicles, essentially serving as a “hard drive” for autonomous and high-tech cars.

Don’t underestimate this SSD; it has passed the automotive industry’s “college entrance exam”—the AEC-Q100 level 2 temperature test, capable of operating steadily between -40°C and 105°C. With such performance, it’s like an “Ironman” competitor!

Now let’s talk about speed: the 256GB version of the AM9C1 boasts a 50% increase in efficiency over the previous generation AM991, with sequential read speeds reaching 4,400MB/s and write speeds of 400MB/s.

What does this mean? It’s like driving while instantly loading navigation, music, and movies—no lag whatsoever! You won’t even have time to blink before the feature film starts playing.

Hyunduk Cho, head of Samsung’s automotive division, proudly stated, “We collaborate with autonomous driving manufacturers to provide them with the best storage devices!” It sounds like the future in-car entertainment systems for autonomous vehicles will be absolutely amazing.

However, Samsung’s “black technology” doesn’t just stop at speed. The AM9C1 also features their self-developed 5nm main control chip, which brings a “hidden skill”: users can switch from TLC mode to SLC mode, resulting in a significant speed boost. You might wonder how fast it can get?

The read speed can reach up to 4,700MB/s, while write speed hits 1,400MB/s! This speed is like a sports car hitting the “accelerate” button—your car might not even match it.

Currently, Samsung has sent 256GB samples to partners for testing, expecting mass production by the end of the year. Even more exciting, Samsung plans to release models ranging from 128GB to 2TB. Imagining 2TB capacity makes me think of how many movies and songs could be stored—essentially creating a mobile “private cinema.”

Especially with the anticipated 2TB “behemoth” version set for mass production early next year, you can load movies and games, ensuring no boredom on long trips.

In truth, Samsung’s AM9C1 is not just about adding a “hard drive” to vehicles. As autonomous and smart cars become increasingly sophisticated, the volume of data they handle is skyrocketing.
