In the past two years, Intel has faced multiple setbacks. The 13th and 14th generation Core processors suffered major failures, and the performance of the latest Core Ultra 200S series processors is even worse than the previous generation. The company has suffered significant losses in the enterprise market and contract manufacturing business, and it is far behind TSMC in advanced chip manufacturing processes, facing a major crisis overall.

In this situation, Intel was forced to begin cost-cutting measures in 2024, laying off around 15,000 employees, and former CEO Pat Gelsinger was forced to step down.

Recently, Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft, rarely commented on Intel’s current situation during an event.

Bill Gates stated: “Intel has basically lost its (right development) direction now, and it shocks me. Before this, Gordon Moore kept Intel at the forefront of the industry. But now, they are not only falling seriously behind in chip design but also in chip manufacturing.”

“I think Pat Gelsinger was very brave, once dedicated to solving the shortcomings and issues in chip design and manufacturing. I once hoped, for him and for the country, that he could succeed. I hope Intel can revive, but as it stands, the overall situation is quite severe for them.”

In addition, Intel is now seriously lagging behind in a crucial area, AI. In this field, Intel faces more competitors, including but not limited to NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm. Compared to these competitors, Intel has no advantage, and if it wants to regain its footing in the future, it will have to face many tough battles.
