The iPhone is finally getting a redesign? According to reports, the iPhone 17 series will feature significant changes to its ID design. Sources indicate that based on the supply chain materials, the iPhone 17 series will adopt a horizontal strip-style camera design. However, details about the lens arrangement are not yet available. It is also reported that many new Android models next year will adopt a similar design. Previous reports suggested that the iPhone 17 series would feature a larger rectangular rear camera module, departing from the square camera module design used for years.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to have eight significant changes:
1. Aluminum Body
Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro series will use an aluminum frame for the body, with a half-aluminum, half-glass design on the back. Previously, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro used titanium frames, while iPhone X to iPhone 14 Pro models featured stainless steel frames.
2. Horizontal Strip Camera
The iPhone 17 Pro’s camera module will also be made of aluminum. Compared to current models, it will feature a “larger rectangular bump,” resembling the horizontal strip camera seen in rendered images. However, further details are still unclear.
3. A19 Pro Chip
The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to use Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip. The new chip reportedly adopts TSMC’s updated third-generation 3nm process, offering slight improvements in performance and power efficiency over the previous generation.
4. Apple-Developed Wi-Fi 7 Chip
At least one iPhone 17 model will reportedly be equipped with an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip instead of using Broadcom’s solutions.
5. 24MP Front Camera
All four iPhone 17 models are expected to feature an upgraded 24MP front camera, compared to the 12MP front cameras on all iPhone 16 models.
6. 48MP Telephoto Lens
The iPhone 17 Pro series will include a 48MP telephoto lens, an upgrade from the 12MP telephoto lens used in the iPhone 16 Pro.
7. 12GB RAM
Earlier rumors suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would feature 12GB of RAM for the first time. Newer reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro will also have this configuration. All iPhone 16 models currently have 8GB of RAM. This increase in memory will enhance Apple Intelligence features and multitasking capabilities.
8. Dynamic Island on iPhone 17 Pro Max
The iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a unique design change with a narrower and smaller Dynamic Island on the front. The new model will utilize Apple’s latest Metalens technology, making the Face ID system’s display area more compact and further improving the screen-to-body ratio.
