Reportedly, at 5:34 PM on the 20th, an incident involving white smoke and gas leakage occurred at Micron Taiwan’s Houli Plant 1, with a suspected fire. The Taichung City Fire Department dispatched 13 fire trucks to the scene.

It is understood that the incident occurred on the first floor of the plant, and Micron Taiwan quickly evacuated the on-site factory personnel. Moreover, by the time the firefighters arrived, Micron Technology’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) had successfully extinguished the fire, and no one was trapped or injured at the scene. Visually, there were no obvious fire or smoke marks on the factory exterior. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Subsequently, Micron Taiwan stated that all employees and contractors were safe and that plant operations were not affected.

Houli Plant 1 is one of Micron’s important DRAM production bases, and the impact of the fire incident is closely watched by the DRAM market.

Recently, DRAM spot prices have been flat and have diverged from contract prices, primarily due to the ongoing lack of recovery in end-user demand. Industry insiders said the cause of the fire is still unclear, and with DRAM prices remaining stable and other brands like Samsung supplying the market, the situation remains to be observed.

Micron is one of the top three DRAM manufacturers globally, with a market share of about 19.2%, and along with Samsung and SK Hynix, the combined market share reaches 96%.

Among them, up to 65% of Micron’s DRAM products are produced in Taiwan, and it has started mass production of the 1-beta process, continuously developing 1-gamma technology using EUV processes, highlighting its importance in the memory industry.

Recently, Micron successfully developed the fifth-generation HBM product (HBM3E) and announced that it would take over part of SK Hynix’s previously exclusive NVIDIA HBM orders, with an expected market share of 20%-25% by 2025.
