AI PC is the hottest term in the PC market this year. As one of the most proactive companies in advancing AI PCs, Microsoft has launched various AI-related projects this year. At last month’s Build Developer Conference, Microsoft unveiled new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X series processors, promoting them as long-lasting Windows 11 AI PCs.
According to TomsHardware, with the release of the Surface Laptop 11 and Surface Pro 7, iFixit began disassembling these products to examine their repairability and showcased the entire disassembly process. Microsoft’s new design received praise from iFixit, giving the Surface Laptop 11 and Surface Pro 7 a repairability score of 8 out of 10, which is quite high.
Upon opening the casings of these devices, several labels and QR codes with wrench symbols can be seen. Microsoft calls these “Wayfinder marks,” which detail the number and type of screws used to secure components, making it easy to know exactly which tools to use. Additionally, the QR codes direct users to Microsoft’s official service guide download page for operational guidance. Microsoft has already released service guides for the Surface Laptop 11 and Surface Pro 7, allowing users to perform relatively simple tasks such as removing the battery and SSD.
iFixit states that removing the Surface Pro 7 battery can be done without removing anything other than the bottom footpad and back cover, whereas previously, multiple components needed to be disassembled to replace the battery. Microsoft has made targeted improvements. Replacing the SSD is also very easy, but since the memory is soldered to the motherboard, it is not easily replaceable by users. The Surface Pro 11 is also easy to handle, although it is slightly more cumbersome compared to a laptop, it is still easier to manage than other tablets.
