Preface

In previous articles, I have already shared a comparison of gaming performance between the GeForce RTX 5060 and GeForce RTX 4060 at 1080P and 1440P resolutions. This article is the third round of the GeForce RTX 5060 performance review series, with the opponent being the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

For the GeForce RTX 5060 to gain market and consumer recognition, its performance comparison with the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is crucial. Since the GeForce RTX 5060 is $200 cheaper than the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, achieving roughly equal performance would already be considered a win in terms of cost-performance ratio—so, what is the actual situation?

Specifications Comparison

The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB version was released on May 18, 2023. It uses the AD106 GPU, based on the Ada Lovelace architecture, with TSMC’s 5nm process. It features 4,352 shader units, 136 texture units, 48 raster units, 34 streaming multiprocessors, 136 tensor cores, 34 ray tracing units, and 32MB of L2 cache.

Its base clock speed is 2,310 MHz, with a boost clock of up to 2,535 MHz. It comes with 16GB of GDDR6 video memory, running at 18 Gbps, with a 128-bit memory bus and a memory bandwidth of 288.0 GB/s. Its FP32 performance is 22.06 TFLOPS, power consumption is 165W, and the suggested retail price is $499.

The GeForce RTX 5060 was released on May 19, 2025. It uses the GB206 GPU, based on the Blackwell architecture, with TSMC’s 4nm process. It has 3,840 CUDA cores, 120 texture units, 48 raster units, 30 streaming multiprocessors, 120 tensor cores, 30 ray tracing units, and 32MB of L2 cache.

Its base clock speed is 2,280 MHz, with a boost clock of up to 2,497 MHz. It is equipped with 8GB of GDDR7 video memory, running at 28 Gbps, with a 128-bit memory bus and a memory bandwidth of 448.0 GB/s. Its FP32 performance is 19.18 TFLOPS, power consumption is 145W, and the suggested retail price is $299.

Test Platform Configuration

The main configuration is as follows:

The processor is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the motherboard is an ASRock X670E PG Lightning, the memory is 32GB of DDR5 6000MHz, the graphics cards are the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and GeForce RTX 5060, the storage consists of two Samsung 970 SSDs, and the operating system is Windows 11.

Game Tests (RTX 5060 vs 4060 Ti 16GB)

Seven games were tested below, all using 1440P quality settings. In each comparison image, the left side represents the GeForce RTX 5060 platform and the right side represents the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB platform.

Game 1: Ghostwire: Tokyo

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 43, Min FPS 41, Frame Time 23.5ms, CPU 11%, Power 41W, Temp 53°C, RAM 11.4GB, GPU Usage 100%, VRAM 6.6GB, GPU Power 150W, GPU Temp 58°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 44, Min FPS 41, Frame Time 22.9ms, CPU 19%, Power 52W, Temp 53°C, RAM 11.8GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 6.7GB, GPU Power 152W, GPU Temp 58°C

Performance and temperatures are nearly identical. The RTX 5060 has slightly lower CPU usage and power consumption. Result: Draw.

Game 2: Cyberpunk 2077

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 48, Min FPS 23, Frame Time 18.6ms, CPU 28%, Power 63W, Temp 56°C, RAM 13.0GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.5GB, GPU Power 146W, GPU Temp 58°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 49, Min FPS 39, Frame Time 20.9ms, CPU 31%, Power 65W, Temp 57°C, RAM 14.2GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 8.8GB, GPU Power 147W, GPU Temp 59°C

Very close average FPS, but 4060 Ti has significantly higher minimum FPS. 4060 Ti benefits from its larger VRAM. Result: Draw, but 4060 Ti has stability edge.

Game 3: God of War

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 89, Min FPS 77, Frame Time 8.1ms, CPU 12%, Power 55W, Temp 58°C, RAM 11.9GB, GPU Usage 100%, VRAM 6.5GB, GPU Power 147W, GPU Temp 57°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 86, Min FPS 73, Frame Time 12.2ms, CPU 13%, Power 54W, Temp 54°C, RAM 13.5GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 6.4GB, GPU Power 154W, GPU Temp 59°C

RTX 5060 has higher FPS and lower frame time. Also consumes less power. Result: Slight advantage to RTX 5060.

Game 4: Horizon Forbidden West

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 60, Min FPS 41, Frame Time 16.5ms, CPU 36%, Power 81W, Temp 62°C, RAM 12.4GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.3GB, GPU Power 142W, GPU Temp 53°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 59, Min FPS 55, Frame Time 17.6ms, CPU 41%, Power 87W, Temp 68°C, RAM 11.7GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.2GB, GPU Power 155W, GPU Temp 60°C

Average FPS nearly equal, but 4060 Ti has better minimum FPS. 5060 consumes less power and runs cooler. Result: Draw.

Game 5: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 37, Min FPS 31, Frame Time 26.3ms, CPU 27%, Power 68W, Temp 63°C, RAM 17.5GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.5GB, GPU Power 131W, GPU Temp 55°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 38, Min FPS 34, Frame Time 26.0ms, CPU 23%, Power 60W, Temp 58°C, RAM 16.4GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.5GB, GPU Power 139W, GPU Temp 58°C

Nearly identical performance across metrics. 5060 uses slightly more CPU and RAM but less GPU power. Result: Draw.

Game 6: Black Myth: Wukong

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 32, Min FPS 26, Frame Time 31.2ms, CPU 8%, Power 43W, Temp 50°C, RAM 12.0GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 6.6GB, GPU Power 147W, GPU Temp 58°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 32, Min FPS 25, Frame Time 30.3ms, CPU 7%, Power 40W, Temp 48°C, RAM 12.3GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 6.4GB, GPU Power 152W, GPU Temp 58°C

Same average FPS and very similar performance overall. High frame times on both indicate poor fluidity. Result: Draw.

Game 7: The Last of Us Part II

  • RTX 5060: Avg FPS 57, Min FPS 43, Frame Time 16.4ms, CPU 20%, Power 50W, Temp 57°C, RAM 13.9GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 7.5GB, GPU Power 138W, GPU Temp 55°C
  • RTX 4060 Ti: Avg FPS 57, Min FPS 44, Frame Time 16.7ms, CPU 21%, Power 54W, Temp 54°C, RAM 13.8GB, GPU Usage 99%, VRAM 8.7GB, GPU Power 146W, GPU Temp 57°C

Performance nearly identical. 5060 uses less power and VRAM. Result: Draw.

Comparison Conclusion

The comparison results are clear: the gaming performance of the GeForce RTX 5060 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is essentially on par, with each card having its own minor strengths in specific areas.

The GeForce RTX 5060 generally consumes slightly less CPU resources, while the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB’s advantage in VRAM capacity is evident in a few games. The RTX 5060’s 8GB of VRAM can be a bit limiting in some scenarios.

In summary, the final conclusion of this article is: the GeForce RTX 5060 offers gaming performance nearly equal to that of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB—they are closely matched. Under these circumstances, for most gamers, neither the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB nor the 4060 Ti 16GB is worth buying anymore.
