On January 8th, AMD officially released the Ryzen 8000 series APU processors, but the official market launch date is set for January 31st. It is only after this date that third-party performance evaluations will be available, and many friends are undoubtedly very anxious about this.
Below, the editor will share the performance evaluations of the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G processors. However, this only includes the evaluation of the CPU performance. As for the GPU performance evaluation, which everyone is eagerly anticipating, there is currently no content available to share, and we still need to wait patiently.
Although for the Ryzen 8000 series APU processors, what everyone is most concerned about is their GPU graphic performance, their CPU performance is also worth paying attention to. A strong GPU performance is necessary, but the CPU performance should not be too weak. Only in this way are the Ryzen 8000 series APU processors worth considering.
So, what is the actual situation? For instance, compared with other Ryzen 7000 series models, how much different is the CPU performance of the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G? And compared to the previous generation Ryzen 7 5700G, how much has the CPU performance improved?
Recently, the Geekbench scores for the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G processors have been revealed, providing preliminary answers to these questions.
Specifically, the single-core performance score of the Ryzen 7 8700G is 2720, and its multi-core performance score is 14326, as shown in Figure 2. The Ryzen 5 8600G’s single-core performance score is 2474, and its multi-core performance score is 11453, as shown in figure three.
For reference, the Ryzen 7 7700’s single-core performance score is 2845, and its multi-core performance score is 14692. The Ryzen 7 5700G’s single-core performance score is 1981, and its multi-core performance score is 8737. The Ryzen 5 5600G’s single-core performance score is 1917, and its multi-core performance score is 7662.
From these scores, it can be seen that the single-core and multi-core performances of the Ryzen 7 8700G are not much different from those of the Ryzen 7 7700, being only 4.6% and 2.6% lower, respectively, which is a negligible difference.
Additionally, compared to the previous generation Ryzen 7 5700G, the Ryzen 7 8700G’s single-core and multi-core performances are ahead by 70.2% and 64%, respectively, which is a significant lead.
Compared to the Ryzen 5 5600G, the Ryzen 5 8600G’s single-core and multi-core performances are ahead by 29.1% and 49.8%, respectively, which is also a very noticeable lead.
So, how much difference is there in the CPU performance between the Ryzen 5 8600G and the Ryzen 7 8700G? The answer is that the single-core performance is 9.9% lower, and the multi-core performance is 25.1% lower, a clear but not drastic difference.
Therefore, it is evident that the CPU performance of the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G is not poor. Compared to the previous generation, there is a huge improvement, and the launch price is even lower than the previous generation products (refer to the above figure). The Ryzen 7 5700G and Ryzen 5 5600G are now completely not worth purchasing.
It is highly recommended for users who are planning to build a new PC soon and do not wish to buy a separate graphics card to consider this option. Although the overall cost of building the PC will be considerably higher, in the long run, opting for a brand new platform with the Ryzen 8000 series APU processors, AM5 motherboards, and DDR5 memory is the most attractive option.
