Core isolation is a group of virtualization-based security features on Windows 11, that provides additional protection against hackers and malicious code. One of its main functions is ‘Memory Integrity,’ which prevents malicious software and malicious code from hijacking high-security processes.
Core isolation ensures that core memory pages are executable only after integrity checks. The ‘Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist’ is also part of core isolation, blocking the installation of drivers that may contain vulnerabilities. By default, the ‘Core Isolation’ feature, including memory integrity, should be enabled. If not enabled or causing performance issues, users can enable this feature from the Windows Security Center.
To enable Memory Integrity for Core Isolation on Windows 11
Follow these steps:
- Open “Start”.
- Search for “Windows Security Center” and click on the top result to open the app.
- Click on “Device security”.
- Under the “Core isolation” section, click on the option labeled “Core isolation details”.
- Turn on the Memory Integrity toggle switch to enable this feature.
After completing these steps, restart your computer to apply the settings and protect your computer from the impact of malicious code injection into high-security processes.
To enable Core Isolation via the registry
- Open “Start”.
- Search for regedit and click on the top result to open the Registry Editor.
- Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceGuard\Scenarios\HypervisorEnforcedCodeIntegrity
- Double-click on the “Enabled” entry and change its value from 0 to 1.
- Click the “OK” button.
After completing these steps, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Upon modifying this registry value, the option for “Core Isolation” in the Settings page will be disabled, and you will see the message “This setting is managed by your administrator.” If you wish to reapply the setting from the Windows Security Center, you must disable this option from the registry (change the key value from 1 to 0).
