Western Digital recently announced that it has joined forces with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to provide gamers worldwide with the first officially licensed M.2 SSD from PlayStation, the WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD dedicated to the PlayStation 5 gaming console, allowing gamers to expand the storage space of the PlayStation 5.
According to Western Digital, the SSD has been optimized for the PlayStation 5 game console, tested thoroughly in multiple scenarios, and achieved a top read speed of 7,000 MB/s. In the product specification, Western Digital reminds users that the SSD is not suitable for NAS or server-oriented functions and that the PlayStation 5 game console will need to update to 21.02-04.00.00 or higher before it can be used.
The SN850 NVMe SSD is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities, priced at $169.99 and $279.99 respectively. It is currently available through its official online store or Best Buy (both offline and online), and will be available through other retailers or resellers starting in mid-August 2022, Western Digital said.
