With the rise of human needs and the gradual development of communication technology, there have been five generations of mobile communication technology. So what is the difference between each generation of mobile communication technology?

First-generation mobile communication technology (1G)

First-generation (1G) mobile communications technology refers to the original analog voice standard for mobile phones that were introduced in the 1980s. The widely used network standards include NMT, NMT, TACS, JTAGS, etc. The standards of the first generation of mobile communication technology are being developed by the developed countries of Europe and the United States. The mobile phone as we know it is the product of the first mobile communication technology, but for the time being, the first generation of mobile communication technology is obsolete. A 1G wireless system is designed to support only voice transmission and is limited by network capacity.

Second-Generation Mobile Communication Technology (2G)

With the increase in users, the disadvantage of the first generation of communication technology (1G) obviously too obvious, the second generation of mobile communication technology (2G) soon developed, different from 1G, 2G of digital transmission to replace analog mobile networks, which greatly improve the efficiency of the phone to find the network, the mobile phone is slowly becoming more popular, more and more mobile phone users.

2G technology is divided into two types, one based on the development of TDMA, represented by GSM, and the other has CDMA specifications in the form of multiplexing.

Third-Generation Mobile Communication Technology (3G)

Increasing demand has led to the development of third-generation mobile communication technology (3G), a cellular mobile communication technology for high-speed data transmission. 3G can transmit voice and data simultaneously at a speed of several hundred KBPS. 3G describes a new generation of mobile communication systems that combines wireless communication with internet-like multimedia communication.

3G memory standards mainly include CDMA2000 launched by Qualcomm, WCDMA launched by the International Telecommunications Union, and TD-SCDMA proposed by China.

Fourth-Generation Mobile Communication Technology (4G)

With the spread of the mobile Internet, people are not satisfied with the cell phone, it can be just a simple call, but also want to imagine the computer as the Internet, in such demand, the fourth generation of mobile communication technology emerged. 4G refers to the fourth generation of mobile communication technology, it puts 3G and WiFi into one, and can quickly transmit high-quality data, audio, video, image, etc., it is born for mobile Internet. Currently, 4G has two systems, TD-LTE and FDD-LTE, which can be downloaded at a speed of more than 100Mbps, 25 times faster than the current home broadband ADSL (4MBPS), and the requirements of almost all can meet users of wireless services.

In addition, 4G can be deployed where DSL and cable modems don’t provide coverage and then expanded to entire regions.

Fifth-Generation Mobile Communication Technology (5G)

After the Internet of Everything concept was proposed, 4G could no longer meet the requirements, so 5G technology was proposed. It is the latest generation of cellular mobile technology, it is the extension of 4G (LTE-A, WiMax), 3G (UMTS, LTE), and 2G (GSM). 5G performance goals are high data rates, reduced latency, energy savings, reduced costs, increased system capacity, and comprehensive device connectivity. The first phase of the 5G specification in Release-15 was designed to enable early commercial deployment.

The second phase of Relea-16 will be completed in April 2020 and submitted to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a candidate for IMT-2020 technology. The ITU IMT-2020 specification requires speeds of up to 20 Gbps, which can achieve wide channel bandwidth and high-capacity MIMO.

On July 23, 2019, ZTE announced that the first 5G mobile phone, ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, was opened for presale on JD.com, Tmall, and ZTE Mobile Mall at the same time, and the price was only 4,999CNY. On November 1st, the three major operators will officially launch 5G commercial packages.

Especially each generation of communication technology is different in many places, but the biggest difference is the speed of the first difference. In general, 2G GPRS Internet access is generally about 30K, 3G can reach about 700K, 4G network speed up to 100Mbps (4G network when advertising is released), the latest 5G maximum speed up to 1000 Mbit / s. With the development of the network, some networks have slowly retired, the old base station is also less and less, and the mainstream is the 4G network. 5G network build is accelerating now, prices of 5G phones and plans are the biggest controversy right now, we’ll see what happens next.
