Silicon Motion (NasdaqGS: SIMO) (“Silicon Motion”), a global leader in the design and marketing of NAND flash memory host controllers, today announced a series of new ultra-high performance, low-power PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1.4 host solutions that address a wide range of market needs, including those for high-end flagship applications. The SM2264, designed for client SSDs, the SM2267, developed for the mainstream SSD market, and the SM2267XT DRAM-Less host chip for the new entry-level small form factor applications. The latest PCIe 4.0 host solution delivers superior performance and ultra-low power consumption with sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,400/6,800 MB per second.
The latest PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1.4-compliant SSD host chip solution from Weltech perfectly demonstrates Gen4’s ultra-high performance and low power consumption. It combines Weltech’s exclusive Error Code Correction (ECC) technology, data path, and EMI protection to provide complete and stable data protection to meet the efficient and stable requirements of storage devices. Ten major customers, including NAND manufacturers and SSD OEMs, have already launched new products with 3D TLC or QLC NAND using Vivante’s Gen 4 host chip.
As we all know, Vivante has long been a leader in SSD controller technology,” said Don Jeanette, vice president of TrendFocus, a market research firm. The launch of this new product comes at a perfect time as the Gen 4 specification is gaining traction in the marketplace and is set to become the standard for PCs, game consoles and other consumer devices over the next few years,” said Don Jeanette, vice president of TrendFocus.
PCIe Gen4 pushes SSD performance to another level,” said Mr. Kou, General Manager of SMI, “Our latest PCIe 4.0 SSD host chip provides a complete solution for consumer SSD applications. Our latest PCIe 4.0 SSD host chipset provides a complete solution for consumer SSD applications, meeting the long-term needs of PC OEMs and SSD module leaders worldwide,” said Kou. Currently, many OEM customers have already started to introduce our latest Gen 4 SSD host chips into their new product development, and the SSDs that are already equipped with SM2267 host chips have already entered mass production.
PCIe Gen 4 solutions for high performance and automotive grades:
SM2264 supports Gen4 x 4-channel, 8 NAND channel design
The SM2264 targets high-performance and automotive-grade SSD applications and is powered by a quad-core ARM® Cortex®-R8 CPU with four 16Gb/s PCIe data buses and supports eight NAND lanes at up to 1,600 MT per lane. It increases data transfer rates, reduces power consumption and provides tighter data protection, with sequential read and write performance up to 7,400 MBs / 6,800 MBs and random read and write speeds up to 1,000K IOPS, providing users with an unprecedented ultra-high performance experience.
The ARM® Cortex®-R8 architecture provides high-speed, multi-threaded processing to meet the mixed workload operational requirements of next-generation storage applications, and the SM2264 is equipped with the latest 7th generation NANDXtend® technology, combined with the latest high performance 4KB LDPC error correction code (ECC) engine and RAID functionality patented by Weltech, to provide the highest level of performance for the newest storage applications. The first generation of 3D TLC and QLC NAND provides excellent error correction. The SM2264 is currently in the customer sampling phase.
Solutions for mainstream and entry-level PCIe Gen 4.
The SM2267 supports Gen4 x 4-channel, 4 NAND channel designs.
The SM2267XT supports Gen4 x 4 lanes, 4 NAND lanes, DRAM-less.
With four 16Gb/s channels of PCIe and four NAND channels, the SM2267 and SM2267XT from SMI meet the needs of mainstream consumer and cost-effective SSD applications with a maximum speed of 1,200 MT/s per channel and sequential read and write performance of up to 3,900/3,500 MB/s. The SM2267 includes a DRAM interface, while the SM2267XT DRAM-less host chip meets the needs of small form factor product design without compromising performance.
